The Ministry to the Sick attends to the spiritual needs of those who are ill or home bound in the parish. Communion is brought to the home, hospital, or retirement or nursing home. Communion is usually taken on Sundays but other days can be arranged if needed. Time is spent with the individual and prayers and reflections are shared. Priests are kept advised of the individual and Pastoral visits are arranged as appropriate.
Those who belong to this ministry are Eucharistic Ministers who have expressed an interest in ministering to the sick. EMs to the Sick go through the same training and have to meet the same prerequisites as Sunday and Weekday Mass EMs, plus they are given special training and guidance on sharing communion and the word of God with those who cannot participate with the community at Mass.
