Lectors are special liturgical ministers whose principal duty is to serve the community by proclaiming the readings from Scripture during the liturgies such as the Mass, Liturgy of the Hours, Communal Penance Services, and at other liturgies and special occasions when readings from Scripture are included.
In the readings, the word of God is shared with the assembly. A thoughtful and prayerful presentation by the lector helps open the hearts of the community so that the Holy Spirit may speak to each one present thereby enlightening, comforting or challenging them.
Any Confirmed adult or teen may participate in this ministry according to the established guidelines and after proper training. Lectors serve at the regularly scheduled Sunday and weekday Masses as well as when called upon to serve for other special liturgies and events involving Scripture reading.

The Altar Society and Environment Ministries keep the church and sacristy beautiful, fully stocked and ready for any of our celebrations and liturgies. The Altar Society attends to the overall needs of the Church, Chapel and Sacristy. Besides taking care of flowers, the group keeps the candle stands filled and addresses the many needs that arise during the changing seasons. They also keep the altar linens clean and ironed each week.
The Environment team prepares the Church for Christmas and Easter. With the help of many volunteers, they decorate the Mass locations, put up the Nativity at Christmastime, and attend to the needs of Holy week.
Volunteers are always needed and most welcome for a variety of on-going or once a year tasks including washing linens to watering plants, etc. All help is appreciated and if you have an interest in helping in any way please contact our Liturgy Coordinator to discuss your areas of interest or complete the Ministry Volunteer Interest Form.
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, usually referred to as EMHCs, assist the priest and deacon in distributing the Body of Christ and the Blood of Christ at Mass and to the sick and homebound. Whether at Mass or in other special situations, the EMHC enables the recipient to share more deeply in the Body and/or Blood of Christ and thereby experience the great love of the Triune God - the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
This ministry came about as a result of Vatican II by Pope Paul VI to foster greater participation by the faithful in the Sacrament of Communion. The Extraordinary Ministers support the ordinary ministers (the priests and deacons) to facilitate the sharing of the Eucharist with the assembly.
This is a very special and spiritually fulfilling ministry of dedicated parishioners who join because they feel called. It is open to fully initiated adults and teens who meet the requirements of the parish and the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, who complete the appropriate training, and are commissioned by the Pastor.
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion are needed for all Sunday and daily Masses and other special liturgies during the year.
If you feel called to this ministry and would like to learn more about it or to simply express your interest in being notified of future offered training you should complete and submit a Liturgical Ministry Volunteer Interest Form. Any questions you have about the ministry or joining should be directed to the Liturgy Coordinator, Belinda Wulke at 818 949 4332 or [email protected]
If you are specifically interested in the Extraordinary Ministry to the Sick Ministry, you will be trained first as an EMHC in the normal training process and then as an EMHC to the Sick. For more information about the EMHC to the Sick Ministry contact our Liturgy Coordinator.
Our Usher Ministry represents the face of St. Bede to the many who come to worship as part of our faith community. The ushers welcoming presence conveys the spirit of our community and makes that very critical positive first impression.
During our liturgies, these ministers are responsible for greeting and welcoming, helping those with special needs, gathering assembly donations, selecting those to bring forward the gifts, assisting at Holy Communion, distributing programs and bulletins, and providing other assistance and/or information where needed. The overall goal of Usher Ministry is to perform tasks that foster the community's full participation in the liturgy from the time anyone enters the church.
Anyone, 18 years of age or older, is invited to join the usher team. Training is provided by experienced ushers and or the head usher. Teens under 18 may usher at the 4:30 pm Sunday Mass and are coordinated by the Youth Minister.
Interested individuals can sign-up for the Usher Ministry by filling out the Ministry Volunteer Interest Form or by emailing [email protected] or simply contacting the Parish Center at 818-949-4300. Inquiries are always welcome.
