Dear Fr. Jim,- Opening:
- Begin the letter by identifying yourself (and naming your parish if you are not a St. Bede parishioner).
- Explain that you are seeking the sacrament of confirmation and that you are seeking it of your own free will.
- Some ideas for the body of your letter:
- Share with Fr. Jim what you have learned
- Share with Fr. Jim your thoughts about what your faith means to you, how you will be active at St. Bede (or your home parish) and how you will live out your faith in service
- Explain what you have been doing to prepare for confirmation, such as attending monthly sessions, a parish mission, helping in the community or doing other volunteer work for the church.
- Identify the person whom you have chosen to be your confirmation sponsor. Explain why she/he is a good role model for you as a Catholic. Tell Fr. Jim your confirmation name and detail the reasons why you feel close to that particular saint whose name you selected.
- Explain how you will contribute to the parish in the future
- Be specific and avoid mentioning things every Catholic should do, such as going to church on Sundays. Instead, discuss how you plan to volunteer or enrich the lives of others in the church.
