Welcome to St. Bede the Venerable

During this very difficult time, Father Antonio
suggests the following prayer be said by the faithful

Prayer Amid an Epidemic
By Kerry Weber

Jesus Christ, you traveled through towns and villages "curing every disease and illness.  Come to our aid now, in the midst of the global spread of the coronavirus, that we may experience your healing love.

Hewal those who are sick with the virus.  May they regain their strength and health through quality medical care.

Heal us from our fear, which prevents nations from working rogether and neighbors from helping one another.

Heal us from our pride, which can make us claim invulnerability to a disease that knows no borders.

Jesus Christ, healer of all, stay by our side in this time of uncertainty and sorrow.

Be with those who have died from the virus.  May they be at rest with you in your eternal peace.

Be with the families of those who are sick or have died.  As they worry and grieve, defend them from illness and despair.  May they know your peace.

Be with the doctors, nurses, researchers and all medical professionals who seek to heal and help those affected and who put themselves at risk in the process.  May they know your protection and peace.

Be with the leaders of all nations.  Give them the foresight to act with charity and true concern for the well-being of the people they are meant to serve.  Give them the wisdom to invest in long-term solutions that will help prepare for or prevent future outbreaks.  May they know your peace, as they work together to achieve it on earth.

Whether we are home or abroad, surrounded by many people suffering from this illness or only a few, Jesus Christ, stay with us as we endure and mourn, persist and prepare.  In place of our anxiety, give us your peace.

Jesus Christ, heal us. Amen

My Dear Brothers and Sisters:

With coronavirus (Covid-19) in our midst, we face a difficult and confusing time and we do so with great uncertainty of what lies ahead.  It is an unsettling time for most of us.  As your pastor, I would like to suggest we seize the opportunity to strengthen our faith in our Lord, Jesus Christ and adhere to the guidelines given by the state of California, the Center for Disease Control and our own Archdiocese of Los Angeles.

May I suggest our best defense is praying and keeping our faith, working together, following the advice of the experts and not letting fear and panic take over our lives..  Above all, we need to remember that our Lord Jesus never abandons us as He is our shepherd.

I assure you of my prayers in this difficult time. We are in a very uncertain time where the landscape is changing frequently.  I urge you to be attentive to changes. Archbishop Gomez sent out an email letter highlighting the actions that are being taken within the Archdiocese to protect parishioners during this medical crisis.

Keep in mind that I urge your prayers and vigilance in doing whatever you can to protect the public health and keep our families and neighbors safe from harm.  This is an ever changing situation and I will keep you advised as the requirements change either through the bulletin,  Constant Contact emails, the parish website (www.bede.org) or our social media sites.

During this time, our older parishioners and/or those whose health is compromised may need additional support.  I urge us all to be ready to help with the needed assistance such as shopping, etc.  If you need help or know someone who does, please contact the Parish Center.

Weekly Offertory Questions

Many parishioners have called asking about their weekly offertory during this difficult time.  We thank you for thinking of us and wish to let you know you can mail in your offertory, drop the envelopes by the Parish Center Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 12:30 pm or sign up on line (click here to sign up for Online Giving).  We greatly appreciate your concern.

During this time of uncertainity and concern, our campaign updates will be replaced by the pressing issues of the health and welfare of our parishioners.
