Habitat for Humanity

San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity

A number of St. Bede parishioners are involved with the San Gabriel Habitat for Humanity(SGVHFH). This is a service ministry that provides affordable home-ownership in partnership with God and all people to develop caring cooperative communities in which God's people in need can live and grow. Habitat For Humanity constructs affordable homes for first-time homebuyers (very-low and low income) primarily thorough volunteers, donated services and materials, and cash donations. They also provide mentoring and support for new homebuyers.

SGVHFH provides a wonderful opportunity to work with fellow parishioners, other churches and places of worship, and people in the community to help families who could not otherwise afford a home of their own become homeowners.

Our current building site is at 624 Geneva Street in Glendale where we are building 5 homes Opportunities are available for weekday and Saturday volunteers. If you stop by during the week, you may bump into Wayne Kruse and/or other fellow parishioners. Groups must contact the Habitat office (Volunteer Coordinator at 626-387-6899 x17 or volunteernow@sgvhabitat.org ) to set up a work date to ensure that meaningful work and adequate supervision can be provided.

A small volunteer group from St. Bede's under the able direction of Bridgid Halpenny, 818.957.8116 meet in the Parish Hall, generally on the third Saturday of each month to make lunches for the work crew at the Geneva construction site. Please call Bridgid if you want to help.

At this time, framing has been completed on the Geneva homes and windows have been installed. Siding is being installed and exterior painting is underway. Installation of dry wall will begin soon followed by finish carpentry and interior painting. Donated building materials and professional design and construction services are always welcome. Please contact Habitat if you can provide monies, materials, and/or services.

Brush with Kindness (BWK)

Habitat for Humanity’s BWK program is a locally-operated service for low-income homeowners struggling to maintain the exterior of their homes.  Municipalities and corporate partners fund BWK projects, and applications are accepted when funding is available. Volunteers are needed to paint and landscape and do other exterior maintenance. Please contact the Volunteer Coordinator at 626.387.6899 x 17 for current opportunities.
